Halloween Potions!

We have been reading Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson and Axel Schffler in the week coming up to Halloween. This is a story about a witch and her adventure on the broom with some new animal friends. She uses her cauldron to make a spell to create a "magnificent broom" with room for everyone to join her. We tried making our own magnificent magic spells on Friday 27th October when everyone was sin their Halloween costume in the hopes that we too could create a broom like the witch's. "Iggety, ziggety, zaggety, ZOOM"! We used 'skeleton bones' (baking soda), 'vampire blood' (food colouring) and just a b it of 'magic water' (vineagar) to create a bubbling cauldron of magic! People Who Help Us

Our theme this month was- People Who Help Us. We were looking at all the people in our community who help us. In particular we were talking about Fire Fighters. We were so lucky that Dublin Fire Brigade came out to talk to us about their job and about keeping ourselves safe. We had great fun going out to see the fire truck and using the hoses!

Aistear Play

Aistear Aistear is the early childhood curriculum framework for all children from birth to six years. The word Aistear is the Irish word for journey and was chosen because early childhood marks the beginning of children's lifelong learning journeys (introducing Aistear- National Council for Curriculum Assessment) The majority of learning in the infant classroom is play based and monthly themes are chosen to get our learners thinking more deeply. Five distinct play areas are set up in the classroom and children are divided into groups with each group taking turns to play in one area each day. The types of play children engage in are; Physical Play- sand, water, playdoh Role Play- dress up, kitchen, shop, school (depending on the monthly theme) Creative Play- painting, junk art Constructive Play- lego, blocks In October the theme in room 2 was School and a role play corner was set up with a white board, desks, chairs and other school themed play equipment.
